PRODUCT REVIEW OF FIELD ROAST HAND-FORMED GRAIN BURGERS
As plant-based burgers go, Field Roast Hand-Formed Burger is the best of all the burgers I’ve tried. The folks at Field Roast aren’t afraid to use a little fat, which makes the burgers juicy. And that’s what everybody likes about a burger – plant-based or not.
The only problem is availability. As with all vegan products, except for a few dairy-free and a few vegan products that MorningStar and Boca make (who pretty much have a monopoly in the grocery stores), they’re only sold in upscale whole foods markets in larger cities. And even then, the availability is sporadic.
If you can get your hands on one of these burgers, it will be worth a few phone calls and the extra long drive to obtain them. They come frozen, so buy a few. Though once again, these stores don’t stock in numbers.
The companies that manufacture these delicious products count on word of mouth and the consumer making requests of their local stores to carry them, but in today’s world, that’s no longer an effective nor efficient way to market a product.
On the other hand, with all the advertising that Beyond Meat did with their Beast Burger, I still haven’t been able to find one. Earth Fare said they had it, then it was on back order, then they said they discontinued it all before I was able to make that purchase. I went out to the store three times and Steve called several times.
The same goes for the Field Roast Frankfurter – a delicious product – yet every time I go to a store that carries Field Roast, they never have the Frankfurter, only the sausage and sometimes the deli slices. After awhile I give up trying and decide to go without.
If a manufacturer has the manufacturing capability, then their own hired people need to network and get their products into the stores. We all don’t work for these companies. It is not our job to keep at it and at it and at it.

I also tried this burger pretty much as a steak. I fried them in oil, then drizzled a dry red wine over the top and fried them a little more.
I served them up on individual plates. Topped each with a spoonful of Grapeseed Vegenaise mayonnaise, then topped that with a drizzle of imitation butter flavored oil. Sprinkled with freshly ground black pepper. And WOW. Tasted like I was eating steak! I didn’t eat anything else but that – and savored every bite.
