Tofurky Ham Roast
As a kid, yes a baby goat, my favorite animal meat was ham, hands down, all the way around, no matter what the occasion I picked ham over all else, even veggies, not dessert though.
This animal-free ham did not conjure up those memories, instead it created new ones. It needs a little tweaking, but the basic elements were there. More fibrous, softer texture and a little more sweet. Although the glaze provided sweet, it didn’t permeate the plant ham. A success nevertheless!
Serves 6
19 oz. Tofurky plant-based HAM STYLE ROAST, thawed and baked according to pkg. instruction – includes packet of glaze
• Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove netting and casing.
• Place in baking dish. Add 1/4 c. water to bottom of dish.
• Cover with foil and bake for 1 hr. 15 min.
• Uncover and pour glaze over the top of roast.
• Cook uncovered for 15 minutes longer.
There’s really no recipe needed here. Although I rarely use the gravy packet that comes with some veg meats, preferring to make my own, in this instance after tasting it and liking it, I used it.
The results were perfect. I would, however, use a little more water next time, maybe 1/2 cup instead of 1/4 cup, since the glaze evaporated more than anticipated. It was still great, but some stuck to the pan that could have been better used. Per slice the glaze was scanty, though in fairness it was a glaze, not a gravy.

The flavor was like a smoked hot dog or deli meat; the texture more like a deli sandwich meat, a little too firm and squeaky to the tooth. Soften it up with a little rougher texture and it will be more representative of ham. Great job though.
The more I ate it, the more I liked it, so yes, I would buy this again.
