My Belated Happy Birthday Vegan Cake!

Okay, doughnuts – even better

from:

The Vegan Doughnut Company

Steve, on his way home from the doctor, walking to the bus stop saw standing right in front of him, none other than you guessed it – a vegan doughnut shop.

Donuts have always been my favorite – from when a kid.

I don’t have the animal teeth required for bagel-eating – I don’t know how they do it – especially if there’s nothing on it to break the chew. I used to see people walking around with whole, plain bagels in their hand, chewing and walking. Who says you can’t walk and chew bagel at the same time?

Well it’s my birthday and I’ll eat cake if I want to – doughnuts that is.

Cinnamon Roll Cake 3.50 6-1/2 oz.

Cookie Butter 3.50 6-2/4 oz.

Glazed Twist 3.00 3-1/2 oz.

Black forest Cake 3.50 8-1/8 oz.

Total 13.50 Total Weight 24-7/8 oz. or 2 lbs. 7/8 oz.

Now you may think that 13.50 is a lot of money for just four doughnuts. But after weighing them, not so bad. These are like super old-fashioned, so they weigh more than commercially made donuts. Just one donut weighed over a half pound, which is a lot for a donut.

We ate them all in one siting.

They certainly had the taste of animal-based donuts – the fried cake/oil combination.

My favorite was the Black Forest Cake.

The twist and the cookie butter were yeast donuts and the other two cake donuts. They both, however had characteristics of the other, for instance the cookie butter textured like it was half yeast and half cake.

The glaze on the twist was perfect.

The filling in the butter cookie, and the cream on the black forest and topping on the cinnamon were way too sweet and grainy. It’s easy to get a fluff or mousse texture that’s creamy absent the grainy texture, but many vegans want ingredients that don’t support that.

RICH’S WHIP TOPPING is one of them and can be easily folded into an animal-free pudding that isn’t grainy. And RICH’S is easily available in Cleveland, just down the road from their location at GORDN’S FOOD STORE on W. 117th Cleveland.

Otherwise it was a delicious post birthday celebration eating vegan cake delivered by Steve!

Thank you Vegan Doughnut!
