Saratoga Sparkling Spring Water – Warning!

Saratoga Sparkling Spring Water – Warning!

Since 1872. Saratoga Sparkling Carefully Curated Spring Water

28 oz. sold in glass or plastic bottles

Steve bought both unbeknownst to me.

Great tasting and feel-to-the-throat. I drank half of it, then recapped it and set it aside in my office.

Much to my surprise and dismay when I went to drink the rest of it a couple days later, I smelled it first as I do most beverages and foods, and immediately smelled mold – strong mold.

Yes, mold. How can water turn moldy I thought. I didn’t find out till Steve got home that he purchased both plastic and glass bottles. The one I drank from and left capped at room temperature was plastic.

In Cleveland, when I bought plastic water bottles they were fine when left out at room temperature overnight. Never once a problem.

I don’t know if it’s the Florida heat or just the plastic bottle. Though I drank from plastic water bottles here in Florida as well – but maybe not sparkling water or maybe I did without a problem. Who would think there would be?

I’m not going to test the glass bottle to see if it molds overnight once opened but capped. I will instead refrigerate opened water bottles no matter if they’re plastic or glass bottles.

I suggest you do the same.

In future I will instruct my astute shopper to buy glass bottles only – when it’s Saratoga.

Then I thought maybe it had something to do with the curated method, whatever that means. Guess I should google it.

“The word ‘curated’ means something has been carefully chosen and thoughtfully organized or presented.”

I’m still not sure how this applies to Saratoga Sparkling Spring Water. Maybe they use more than one spring in the Northeast from which to formulate their water, with each spring offering a different mineral composite.

Or maybe the problem was in the plastic of the bottle itself.

Whatever the cause I see it as problematic. I’ll shoot this over to the folks at Saratoga so they can do their own testing, or not.
