Tofurky Plant Based Savory Gravy


Pre-made, pre-packaged of course. We can always use more animal-free gravies and sauces. It’s the sauce, the gravy, the drizzle that makes or completes, enhances or highlights what’s under it. And so it has always been revered and respected and looked after with great care. Pass the gravy. Who says no? Of course we doctor it up and take it to the moon!

Serves 4

1, 14 oz. container Tofurky Plant-Based SAVORY GRAVY, thawed

approx. 1/3 c. apple cider (not juice)

1 t. light brown sugar

2 t. liquid smoke

few light shakes garlic powder

1 t. ground coriander

1/2 t. ground poultry seasoning

1/4 t. ground allspice

fresh ground pepper to taste

sliced scallion, white and green part

sliced green, pitted olive, about 4

sliced Kalamata, pitted olive, about 4

about 1 heaping c. thawed, sliced, Delight Soy chicken popcorn nuggets

a few handfuls cleaned fresh cilantro sprigs for garnish and eating with the veg chicken and gravy

sliced Russian black bread, lightly toasted and spread with margarine

salt to taste

Place gravy in saucepan, over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, then whisking rapidly till smooth as it heats through and becomes bubbly.

Add remaining ingredients, stirring after to each addition, excluding the veg chicken, cilantro and bread.

When very hot, adjust seasoning, then add the chicken and cook about 5-7 minutes on slow heat, uncovered.

Salt to taste.

Spoon over individual servings of toasted Russian black bread spread with margarine. Top with the veg chicken gravy. Garnish liberally with cilantro sprigs and fresh grind black pepper.



Notes: It looks like gravy, feels like gravy, tastes like toast. Yes, toast. I like toast, so this I can do something with. “NICE, said Steve. VERY Nice! “

I loved it. There’s something about me and gravy toast. M-m-m-m. And there’s something good about replacing wine with apple cider in sauces that I ordinarily would use wine. A perfect match.

I purchase DELIGHT SOY CHICKEN NUGGETS either through the deli, where they’ve already been glazed, or I buy in bulk unglazed. A great animal-free chicken product. Been using it for years with no complaints, only praise.
